THE CAMERA NEVER LIES

Photographers and filmmakers we've discovered  here at CULT who are really time wasting stoners looking for a quick way to make a buck or two. Can anyone forge a career in the art world these days?  Unfortunately they have to remain nameless otherwise ill get told off. 

Perhaps this one was already done for when he asked me to pose for him, he clearly just wanted to sleep with me. Lamenting about his long distance girlfriend , was i supposed to feel sorry for him? Lets hope his penis is bigger than his camera although I'm not so sure.  

He arrived at our meeting one bleak and thus far uneventful tuesday morning rich rolling like a mutha a strange trinket hanging loosely around his neck. We got chatting ,rather to jovially for my liking , and I was not surprised to soon find out that nepotism had played a part in this likely lad’s easy access to exhibitions and galleries , even scoring himself an internship at Magnum, congratulations! Jolly well done!

Yes people take pictures, the whole fucking time, we are spammed all day long by our friends shamelessly updating their instagram , sharing yet another snap of their avo on rye, or their shot of Ibiza at sunset . We get it, generation Z is OBSESSED with photos of all kinds as long as its filtered of course. Photography is now accessible to everyone through their smart phones however we are not photographers. That is the misconception here and exactly why this guy got on my tits! The arrogance of him to claim that he was a photographer when really, truthfully he was just another happy snapper keen to show of his work to the general public. 

Yes he claimed he was passionate, so what??? I'm passionate about many things dosen’t mean Its enough to make a career out of it. What i struggled with the most was  there wasn't  any real message or issue that he wanted to address, why was he attempting to enter an already overcrowded world without any substance, i wanted to like him really i did however i just thought he was taking the piss. 

To me taking pictures is about savouring life intensely, every hundredth of a second. All of it! exploring beauty, its something that should very often be left to the professionals! I excused myself for being controversial and did say that it was not an attack on him but seriously with a camera or paintbrush in hand do we all qualify as an artist.  Is there something wrong with the world? why have we tolerated this for so long. Where are our standards Thomas Merton once said art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time i must admit with this guy I'm truly lost.

A dear close relative of mine once  travelled the world searching for those extraordinary sacred images ,a true genius and spine tinglingly gifted. The greatness of these individuals is being threatened by those toxic amateurs stealing the limelight and its got to stop!  The photos were  feeble, pusillanimous, apologetic and, even in their resolute wrong-headedness, lacked  all ambition. If every picture tells a story then lets hope for everyones sake that this guys story is over very quickly.
